John Houck - Senior
Hydrogeologist
John Houck is a hydrogeologist with 20
years experience as a consultant for groundwater supply
development, water resources management, and environmental
investigations. His clientele includes municipalities, water
utility districts, commercial and industrial enterprises with
projects located in Washington, Oregon, Montana, and Idaho.
John’s extensive experience with water
resources projects entails supply development and protection,
hydrologic evaluations of streams and groundwater, design of
numerous large water supply wells, drilling specifications and
bid document preparation, oversight of drilling contractors,
aquifer pumping tests and determining optimal well production
yield, obtaining water rights, and rehabilitation of
under-performing or sand producing wells.
John is skilled in environmental project
planning. He has supervised large scale, fast-track construction
projects in waterfront industrial properties, overseen
installation of dewatering systems, and directed emergency
dewatering of landslide sites and flowing artesian wells. He
supervised characterization and cleanup activities at industrial
and military sites contaminated with hydrocarbons, heavy metals,
and halogenated solvents. He is knowledgeable of a wide variety
of drilling techniques, methods for soil and water sampling, and
monitoring well construction. He has prepared sampling and
analysis plans and work plan documents for remedial
investigations.
In addition to his experience as a
hydrogeologist, John managed laboratory hazardous wastes and is
a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM). He also trained
for three years as a member of a Pre-Entry Assessment Team using
level B PPE in emergency response to earthquake damaged
buildings.
