Mai Serkowski –
Senior Environmental Engineer
Mai Serkowski has 20 years of experience as
an engineer specializing in environmental compliance,
radioactive waste management, deactivation, and closure of
nuclear facilities. She has provided environmental engineering
oversight to the transition of nuclear facilities between
contractors at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Hanford Site.
She is knowledgeable of DOE Order 435.1, RCRA and NEPA
requirements applicable to facility operations, deactivation,
and closure. She has provided technical guidance to
disassemble, decontaminate, designate, package and remove TRU/LLW
and mixed TRU containers and waste streams from radiological
research laboratories, and arranged for proper shipping and
disposal. She also prepared procedures and work packages
directing waste management activities. Mai has prepared RCRA
closure plans for radioactive waste storage tanks. She has
extensive experience with air permitting for radioactive
emissions and preparation of NOCs. In addition, Mai has managed
liquid effluent discharge activities in conformance with State
Waste Discharge permit conditions. She is trained and certified
in environmental compliance, NEPA and work in radioactive
conditions at the Hanford Site.
