Donny Heidelberg
Environmental Scientist & Biologist
Donny Heidelberg is an environmental scientist specializing in environmental biology. He supports environmental field investigations such as Columbia River sediment sampling, and oversight of shoreline aquifer tube sampling for hexavalent chromium. He is trained to perform work in hazardous and radioactive conditions.
Donny has performed orphan site walk-downs to document physical evidence of undocumented potential hazardous and radiological sites at the Department of Energy’s Hanford Site in Washington. This work was performed at several areas of the Hanford Site and included walking the entire 100 B/C Area and mapping anomalies such as old foundations, stained soils, construction debris, and areas of ground subsidence to identify potential waste sites for further investigation. He used Trimble GPS units to locate data points, and prepared data bases and maps using ArcView GIS software from data gained from walk-downs. Donny also evaluated sites found from walk downs using geophysical equipment such as magnetometers and ground penetrating radar.
Donny has also supported monitoring and sampling activities at the Department of Defense’s Umatilla Chemical Weapons Disposal Facility. The facility covers several square miles features an incinerator for treating and destroying munitions such as nerve gas and chemical weapons that are stored there.
